Kayak Fishing Clinic
Washington, NC
Enjoy the Tar-Pamlico River the best way possible: by
fishing on it like a pro! You are invited to join local fishing experts and the
Pamlico-Tar River Foundation (PTRF) on February 18th from 8:30 AM – 12:30 PM at
the NC DENR Division of Marine Fisheries Conference Room (943 Washington
Street) in Washington for the second edition to our fishing series, “Kayak
Fishing.”
Local fishing experts will provide information on the most popular species
found in the river and the best way to fish for them in a properly outfitted
kayak. Information will range from how to outfit a kayak for fishing to how to
fly fish from a kayak. Informational handouts will be provided, and there will
be plenty of time for questions and answers after each fisherman presents. You
won’t have to worry about missing out on a thing!
Former PTRF board member, Greenville resident and author of “Fishing the
Western Pamlico”, Peter Boettger, will be providing the introduction to the
clinic. Informational presentations by fishing experts will follow.
Presenters are:
Ashley Williams, Great Outdoor Provision Company (GOPC)
Ashley Williams (aka, Druminator) is the captain of GOPC’s Kayak Fishing Team
and is extremely active in the kayak angling community, whether online,
on-water or on location sharing his passion for the sport with others. Ashley’s
annual Meet and Greet has evolved to become quite a social event, drawing kayak
anglers from across the state. Ashley loves to talk kayak fishing with anyone
who will listen and teaches numerous well attended kayak fishing clinics such
as the one at the NC Aquarium. Ashley also does an annual fundraising event for
the local chapter of Heroes on the Water.
Matt Sadler, GOPC
Matt is an outdoor enthusiast who loves to paddle, fish, and explore new
places. He has been fly fishing for 20+ years. When he has a day off from
managing the Greenville GOPC store, he is usually headed to the NC coast with
his fly rod to search of red fish in shallow water.
Display tables and kayaks from GOPC will be available before and after the
presentations for a close up look at baits, lures, rods, reels, lines and other
fishing accessories. Every question you may have will be answered!
The clinic is open to everyone and FREE to all PTRF members. Not a member?
“Kayak Fishing Clinic” is $30, which includes a one year PTRF membership. PTRF
members receive 4 newsletters a year, free use of kayaks on PTRF sponsored
trips, notifications of kayak trips and other sponsored activities, exclusive
merchandise offers and reduced tickets to one of the biggest parties in
Washington, our annual Oyster Roast.
Space is limited. You can reserve your seat by calling the Pamlico-Tar River
Foundation at 252-946-7211. Advanced reservations are strongly encouraged and
will be accepted until 5PM on February 17th. Walk in attendees will be admitted
on a space available basis and charged $40.
This event is perfect for the fisher just starting out, someone looking for new
ways to spend time with the family, or someone who is looking for a new way to
fish. Come down to the NC DENR Division of Marine Fisheries on Saturday
February 18th to learn how to fish, from a kayak, at the same time!
