Land for Tomorrow Day

Care about land and water conservation? If so, please join other like-minded citizens at the  Land for Tomorrow Day on May 20, 2008 at the North Carolina General Assembly.

Land for Tomorrow is a coalition of private citizens, organizations and local governments working together to preserve and protect working farms, forests, parklands, gamelands, waterways, historic and other special places for future generations.

Because of the active support of people like you, we now have House and Senate leadership who understand these issues. Last year we succeeded in obtaining an extra $108 million for land and water conservation.

This year, Land for Tomorrow is asking for $200 million in additional funding for land and water conservation. We feel it is an opportune time to ask for these funds because:

- land prices have dropped or are stagnant in some places;
- interest rates are low;
- the state's debt capacity is good; and
- legislators understand the need to conservation to protect water supplies.

We also plan to launch “Landing Jobs” demonstration projects after the 2008 short session of the NC General Assembly if the program is funded.

While over half our state legislators co-sponsored our legislation last year, they need to hear from  you, their constituents, again this year to know that conservation is still a high priority.

Please participate in our Land for Tomorrow Day!

Participation is easy. When you arrive at the Legislative building, we will provide you with a packet of information for you and one to give legislators, and a briefing on legislation and lobbying tips. Then you simply go to legislators’ offices and tell them why land and water conservation is important to you, and ask them to support the Land for Tomorrow legislation. You will also have an opportunity to talk to them and fellow citizen lobbyists at the ice cream social and free reception at Caffe Luna.
