Organizer
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• 3-5 years organizing experience in electoral, issue and/or legislative campaigns.
• Experience engaging and motivating large numbers of volunteers.
• Experience working collaboratively with other organizations with diplomacy.
• Can motivate anyone to do anything, in print, in person, and over the phone.
• Enjoy working under pressure, under deadline, and can think quickly on your feet.
• Work well independently, as part of a geographically dispersed team.
• Familiarity with and understanding of North Carolina politics, climate and energy-related issues and advocacy ideal.
• Experience working with elected officials and/or lobbying.
• Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel throughout the state.
• Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
SALARY / BENEFITS: This full-time position is based in Raleigh, NC. The position will last through December 2009, with possibility of extension. Competitive salary range. Excellent benefits package, plus vacations/holidays.

1Sky (www.1sky.org) is a powerful new campaign to build a movement at the scale of the climate challenge by communicating a pro-active vision, and advocating a clear, simple set of goals and policy initiatives. 1Sky was borne from the collective urgency and determination of a diverse group of leaders with many strengths, audiences, and organizing strategies and 1Sky aggregates that power. 1Sky is building a central staff in the DC area, and up to 50 organizers placed with partner organizations in target congressional districts around the country, to carry out our mission. *****NC Conservation Network is partnering with 1Sky in North Carolina to carry out this campaign. The NC Conservation Network is a statewide network of over 120 environmental, community and environmental justice organizations focused on protecting North Carolina’s environment and public health. The NC Conservation Network supports, trains and coordinates diverse groups and directly advocates to achieve equitable and sustainable solutions for our environment. *****1Sky and NC Conservation Network seek a North Carolina organizer, based in Raleigh, who will coordinate the local grassroots efforts to engage and mobilize over 1 million people nationwide to advocate directly to their member of congress for the 1Sky solutions policy platform. The Organizer will work in coalition with a diverse set of concerned groups, businesses, individuals, and communities to demonstrate dramatic public support to address global warming at the scale of the problem. The organizer will report to the NC Conservation Network, and the 1Sky Field Director. *****PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Implement 1Sky field and outreach strategies in your target community, including grassroots lobbying actions, voter education campaigns, candidate “bird-dogging,” and voter registration, voter id, and GOTV. • Build coalitions among allies and nontraditional constituencies to grow broad community support for the 1Sky solutions package. • Help build, engage, and mobilize a network of over 1 million activists to advance 1Sky’s national advocacy campaigns through local organizing efforts. • Generate local media coverage on behalf of 1Sky. • Coordinate local and regional activist skills trainings • Develop and execute direct actions in targeted areas to draw attention to the need for federal global warming action • Track and report campaign deliverables.
