Development Director


• B.A. or similar degree(s) is required.
• At least 2 years direct work experience in fundraising with measurable experience in major donor development required.
• Demonstrated strong major donor development, planning, organizational, electronic and direct mail, fundraising events skills and experience highly preferred.
• Demonstrated grant writing, grant compliance, and membership services experience preferred.
• Highly confident and demonstrated success in communicating with major donors, grant makers and corporations.
• Ability to work well under pressure with foresight.
• Highly proficient in computer software: Internet; Word; Excel; Power Point; Access; ability to coordinate with staff in using online fundraising tools and membership databases.
• Ability to travel in North Carolina and domestically (under 30 percent of time).
• Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills with strong detail-orientation.
• Passion for working on energy and climate change issues facing North Carolina.

Non-profit salary commensurate with experience and education (range of $47,000 to $60,000). Full benefits package and paid professional development opportunities.

As a critical member of the NCSEA team, the Development Director’s work with staff, Board of Directors, major donors and foundations will achieve a multi-faceted suite of strategic objectives, campaigns and programs in the practice areas of energy regulatory policy, education and outreach, and sustainable energy market development. The Development Director works under the supervision of the Executive Director, and is responsible for creation and all aspects of daily implementation of an aggressive long-term fundraising plan. The Development Director will lead major donor, public and private grants, membership and corporate sponsorship. This opportunity will focus heavily on major donor and membership development, and work with the Executive Director to increase staff and Board capacity to fundraise through their respective roles and responsibilities. *****Responsibilities of the Development Director generally include:***** • Coordinate with Executive Director (ED), Board Treasurer, and senior staff team to draft, maintain, and lead the execution of all aspects of a comprehensive, rolling 24-month development plan, updating the plan at least once each financial quarter. • Lead prospecting, solicitation, and maintenance for large and small donors and grant makers, and all grant proposals, fundraising events/campaigns, membership activities. • Coordinate and maintain all NCSEA fundraising records and donor/grant reporting, including monthly fundraising performance metrics and lessons learned. *****About NCSEA The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) works to create a sustainable energy economy by promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency in North Carolina through public policy, economic development and education.
