Economics & Policy Analyst
• Degree(s) in economics, business administration, accounting, public policy, and/or related field(s).
• Demonstrated strong economic analysis and research skills, experience in simple economic or statistical modeling preferred.
• 1 to 3 years work experience in: public utility; trading floor; regional transmission organization; alternative energy company; independent power producer or highly similar experience.
• Confidence in communicating with both technical experts and non-technical allies, and a variety of public figures and officials.
• Ability to work well under pressure, with shifting priorities and sometimes adversarial conditions.
• Highly proficient in computer software packages: Word; Excel; Power Point (at a minimum).
• Ability to travel in North Carolina and domestically (under 20 percent of time).

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) works to create a sustainable energy economy by promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency in North Carolina through public policy, economic development and education. NCSEA’s policy work has set numerous sustainable energy policy precedents for the Southeastern United States in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable energy, rate restructuring and mitigating global climate change. This is an exciting and unique career opportunity to be part of the NCSEA policy team. Position Description: The Economics & Policy Analyst (E&P Analyst) works under the supervision of the Policy Director in a fast-paced, analytical policy environment to ensure rapid and accurate completion of all day-to-day policy activities. Work will primarily include economics and policy analysis and research to strengthen NCSEA’s intervention in North Carolina Utilities Commission (Commission) electricity-related dockets, collaborative creation of campaigns for strategic audiences, drafting and supporting passage of legislation, research and integration with NCSEA’s economic development and education programs, and publications. Part of the E&P Analyst’s time will be spent working with the Senior Associate on market development programs. The E&P Analyst will support the Policy Director in development and implementation of annual and long-term policy strategy, and assist the Senior Associate in developing robust sustainable energy sector market data and analysis. *****Responsibilities***** • Assist Policy Director in executing NCSEA’s short- and long-term policy strategy for sustainable energy. Primary focus is on the Commission, various state departments and the General Assembly, with occasional local government initiatives. • Conduct policy research and economic analysis to support NCSEA’s policy decision making, market development programs, and write position papers including, but not limited to, Commission filings, legislative memoranda and policy content for the NCSEA website, newsletters, annual report, market analysis and other publications. • Assist legal representation of NCSEA with economic analysis before the Commission to ensure the highest possible quality of input and participation. • Communicate NCSEA’s policy initiatives and successes at public forums and events, including presenting to technical and lay audiences. • Assist in building and maintaining alliances and partnerships with key individuals and select public, private and non-profit entities necessary to achieve policy goals and objectives. • Assist with writing grant applications and fundraising. • Serve on advisory groups, committees, commissions, study panels, etc. as appropriate. • Execute general duties, including: Assisting Policy Director with developing and tracking economic and policy performance metrics; filing quarterly reports; providing information when requested by Policy Director or Executive Director; maintaining organized files on policy objectives; attending staff, Policy Committee and Board meetings as directed by the Policy Director or Executive Director.
