Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy

Hendersonville, NC

Project Conserve seeks dedicated individuals to fill 20 full-time and one half-time positions serving the critical conservation needs of western North Carolina. The program places AmeriCorps “members” in service with one of 13 organizations working to protect the unique natural resources of the southern Blue Ridge Mountain region. During an 11-month term of service Project Conserve members will promote conservation through education, volunteerism and direct service. AmeriCorps is a federally-supported program of the Corporation for National and Community Service that helps communities across the country meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. Administered by the Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, a local conservation organization based in Hendersonville, NC, Project Conserve is one of 15 AmeriCorps programs supported by the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. Full-time Project Conserve members will serve 1,700 hours from September 2008 to July 2009 with their host organization. Members will also participate in community-wide service activities, such as National Volunteer Week, and participate in a series of training programs throughout their term of service. Trainings may cover a broad range of topics including conflict resolution, forest management, trail construction, invasive plant identification, disaster preparedness, and other topics. ***Project Host Sites*** Appalachian Voices, Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, Environmental and Conservation Organization, Evergreen Community Charter School, French Broad Watershed Training Center, High Country Conservancy, Land-of-Sky Regional Council, Mud Creek Watershed Restoration Council, National Committee for the New River, The Nature Conservancy, RiverLink, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
