* Bachelor's degree in related field from a reputable institution;
* Exceptionally strong interpersonal and communication skills;
* Strong organizational skills and a disciplined approach to work and problem solving;
* Working knowledge of current and evolving trends in philanthropy;
* Strong motivation and drive to succeed;
* A working knowledge of the local philanthropic community a definite plus;
* Drive to function independently and to proactively advance the Thee Thread Trail to prospective donors and other sources of capital;
* Ability to cultivate relationships;
* A self-less approach to supporting and managing the Thread Trail's development functions, always placing team before self; and
* Demonstrated successful fund-raising experience a plus.

Catawba Lands Conservancy, the Charlotte (NC) area’s regional land trust and lead agency for the Carolina Thread Trail, seeks a creative, energetic, organized and disciplined person to serve as the Thread Trail Development Director. This full-time position offers a rare opportunity to shoulder with a dynamic team of professionals in a fast-paced, fun and energetic environment and to be part of an extraordinarily effective and highly regarded organization. The Carolina Thread Trail is a 15-county initiative to link conservation areas, greenways and trails to create a network of connected communities, natural and cultural areas, and attractions. The Thread Trail will be built through community partnerships and collaborations, with funding from by private and public sources. ***** Duties and Responsibilities: ***** * Responsible for advancing all development efforts associated with the Carolina Thread Trail, including oversight of a comprehensive development program that effectively secures funding from major donors, corporate partners, foundations and public and governmental organizations; * Effectively coordinate development efforts with our community partners, including local Thread Trail committees and Foundation For The Carolinas; * Manages all major gifts and planned giving initiatives, including donor prospecting, cultivation, advancement and stewardship; * Works closely with executive leadership to coordinate and facilitate volunteer leadership, including the Thread Trail Governing Board and Leadership Council. * Responsible for cultivation and special events, including regional tours for prospects; Development Director Carolina Thread Trail Charlotte, NC * Effectively partner with the Conservancy’s Development Director and the Outreach & Education Director to advance the Thread Trail, ensure consistent messaging, and advance the Conservancy and land conservation efforts; * Assist with securing public funding for the Carolina Thread Trail; * Works closely with the communications director on marketing efforts and the management of donor collateral materials; * Supports the executive director and the Governing Board as requested; * Partners with the board and the staff to successfully develop and complete an aggressive capital campaign; and * Fully understands and complies with the Conservancy’s and Thread Trail’s policies, practices and core values, and passionately supports the Conservancy’s mission, board, volunteers, landowners and staff. ***** About the Carolina Thread Trail and the Conservancy: Catawba Lands Conservancy permanently protects land, water and wildlife habitat to enhance your quality of life. It is a local land trust serving the six-county area surrounding Charlotte, NC. A land trust is a nonprofit organization that permanently conserves land by undertaking or assisting in direct land transactions—primarily the purchase or acceptance of donations of land or conservation easements. The Conservancy is one of 24 land trusts in North Carolina. The Conservancy is the lead agency for the Carolina Thread Trail. The Conservancy’s staff, including the Thread Trail team, is an exceptional team of dedicated professionals, each with a passion for land conservation and strong work ethic. The staff includes an executive director, membership and outreach director, communications director, administrative coordinator, finance director, conservation program director, land protection director, land stewardship director and technology coordinator. The Conservancy currently protects 7,300 acres in its six-county service area. Support from more than 1,400 members, 60 corporate partners, and more than 200 volunteers makes our work possible. More than 70 private landowners have entrusted to us what is, in most cases, their most valued and precious possession – their land.
