Get your sustainable groove on

I can't help it. It's Friday afternoon, it's been a long week. And all I want to do is tell you all about a new phenomenon that eMagazine dubs "Sustainable Clubbing." From the article:

"The average dance club uses 150,000 watts of electricity. And while we can’t place the blame for global warming on the shoulders of their sweaty, dancing masses, these clubs could be doing more—reducing bottle and cup waste, conserving energy used for lights and sound and putting all that people power to good use. Clubs across America are responding to the call and stepping up their environmental commitment—some with technological innovations to rival the DJ’s complex beat-mixing."

So just what does this all mean in actuality? It means toilets filled with rainwater, vertical gardens for insulation, bars made of recycled content, biodegradable cups, and even a dance floor that lights up only when people step on it to activate magic crystals! (Ok, I added the word "magic.")

I haven't seen any clubs like this in North Carolina (and I've been to a few...) but I'm wondering if there any any environmentally-conscious bars in the Old North State. Maybe somewhere out west...Asheville area?

In the meantime, at least we're recycling bottles and cans at the bars now. Gotta start somewhere, right?
