Young Voters Project Job Description

The North Carolina Conservation Network is hiring a set of hard-working individuals to help contact and turn out newly registered young voters in North Carolina during the final month of the historic 2008 election cycle. This is a strictly non-partisan effort targeting young voters who are often underrepresented on Election Day.

Working in coordination with progressive advocacy groups across the state, the North Carolina Conservation Network will turn out thousands of new voters to revitalize our democracy and to ensure that elected officials pay attention to important issues that young people care about such as global climate change.

The North Carolina Conservation Network is a statewide network of over 100 environmental, community and environmental justice organizations focused on protecting North Carolina’s environment and public health. The NC Conservation Network supports, trains and coordinates diverse groups and directly advocates to achieve equitable and sustainable solutions for our environment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  •  Calling newly registered 18-25 year-olds who have never voted before in NC and providing them with simple voting information such as where and when to vote;
  • Identifying young voters who are concerned about climate change and giving them the opportunity to take action on climate change and other environmental issues.
  • Working with the Civic Engagement Coordinator to coordinate phone-bank logistics;
  • Collecting petitions signatures for action on climate change outside polling places

Job Requirements

  • Excellent oral communication skills;
  • Dedication to environmental protection or other progressive issues;
  • A proven work ethic;
  • All applicants must be able to work at least ten 4-hour shifts from Sunday, 10/19 through Thursday 10/30, and two 4-hour shifts Sunday, 11/2 through Tuesday, 11/4.

Job Location: Raleigh, NC

Compensation: Each organizer will be paid a total of $1000 for the completion of this project. Expected hours actually worked is 60 hours.
