CleanAIRE NC (CANC) is a statewide nonprofit organization working for cleaner air and solutions to climate change since 2003. CANC works to raise North Carolina’s air quality to exceed that of scientific recommendations. Energized by the research-proven fact that even the smallest air pollutants are toxic to our health and by the urgency of pollution-induced climate change, CANC is driven by its mission:

To advocate for the health of all North Carolinians by pursuing equitable and collaborative solutions that address climate change and air pollution.

Responsibility: The Education Manager (EM) Manager is responsible for maintaining and managing all educational programs of CANC. EM will oversee a number of initiatives related to climate change, air quality monitoring, and health. EM will collaborate with other CANC program managers to strategically educate and engage North Carolinians in advancing CleanAIRE NC’s mission.

In this role, the EM will specifically plan, oversee, and execute the Charlotte Mecklenburg Climate Leaders (CMCL) and NC Climate Ambassadors (NCCA) programs and partner with schools, healthcare systems, and community organizations to provide education on the health impacts of climate change and air pollution, and on effective strategies to improve health in their communities.

The Education Manager will report to the Executive Director and will be a member of the CANC program team.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

-Develop, maintain, execute and manage a comprehensive educational program.
-Plan, manage, and update staff on educational programs.
-Develop and maintain all curriculum and educational materials for educational programs.
-Develop and aggregate content related to educational programming for public consumption (videos, social media, website, blogs, etc)
-Track community outreach efforts accomplished through educational programming for impact analysis.
-Participate, as appropriate and able, with the organization’s fundraising, and engagement efforts as requested by CANC staff.
-Manage communications with volunteers.
-Work with Health Manager on NC BREATHE and engagement by colleges and universities
-Assist with public speaking and community engagement opportunities.
-Organize annual Earth Day event(s) with EarthShare volunteers each spring.
-Contribute to organizational storytelling, curating connections with media and influencers.
-Contribute to positive organizational culture through intentional and identifiable actions.
-Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

-Must be NC Environmental Educator certified or obtain Certification within one year.
-Engaging and comfortable in front of large groups of all ages.
-Skillful in working with students of all ages.
-Must be a team player willing to step into a variety of roles within the organization.
-Experience in developing, delivering and evaluating educational presentations; public health or environmental project management and event planning a plus.
-Excellent networking, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills.
-Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required, in a field related to health, education, sustainability, science, etc.
-Graphic design skills and experience is preferred; thorough understanding of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
-Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed.

The work environment requires someone that is a self-starter, confident, responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented. The individual must be flexible in a rapidly-changing work environment and work well independently and as part of a team.

CleanAIRE NC offers a competitive compensation package to include medical, dental & vision coverage, paid-time-off (PTO), 403(b), company paid holidays, cell phone allowance, and parental leave.

This position may require occasional evening, weekend work, and overnight travel.

Must be able to endure some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as office equipment and boxes of supplies. The work may require specific but common physical characteristics and abilities such as lifting up to 50 pounds, above-average agility, and dexterity.
