  • Bridge the gap between impacted community-led organizations and state and local decision-makers in order to help community leaders educate decision-makers on environmental justice considerations and principles.
  • Help partner environmental organizations build a stronger commitment and skill set for engaging in environmental justice issues.
  • Attend stakeholder and Environmental Management Commission meetings in order to engage in administrative decision-making and public engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with policy and organizing staff to develop environmental justice messages to educate and mobilize our Public Alert email activists and social media followers.

  • 3-5 years of applicable work experience.
  • BA/BS, preferably in political science, public health, public administration, social work, communications, environmental studies/science, or another related field.
  • Ability to and/or demonstrated lived experience working with a diverse cross-section of people and understanding of how power dynamics operate within and across them.
  • Ability to work as a part of a collaborative team as well as work independently.
  • Comfort working non-traditional hours, including occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Willingness to travel across North Carolina regularly.

  • Lived experience with and knowledge of constituencies most impacted by environmental injustice.
  • Experience with one or a combination of the following: equity, civil rights, social justice, environmental justice, climate justice, or energy justice.
  • Experience and understanding of the key components of advocacy, state and local non-profits, politics, and policy-makers.
