Organizing Assistants are temporary part-time employees who assist Democracy North Carolina’s Organizers with a range of work duties, from behind-the-scenes organizing work like data entry and follow up phone calls, to more front line work like assisting with speaking engagements and events. Organizing Assistants need to be flexible and willing to work in a fast-paced work environment. Strong communication, organizational and time management skills are a must. Organizing Assistants are supervised by a full-time Democracy NC Field Organizer and their performance and employment will be evaluated periodically.

Responsibilities

Help complete administrative tasks related to organizing work, such as data entry, returning phone calls, and helping to prepare training and other voter education materials.

Help with the distribution of voter education materials to other community-based organizations.

Help Organizer follow up with local volunteers and provide needed information and materials.

Do presentations and / or represent Democracy NC at meetings or events that the Organizer is unable to attend.

Participate in Democracy NC conference calls or meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Organizer.

Qualifications

Experience working with volunteers

Experience with conducting voter engagement efforts, including phone banking, door-knocking, meeting with elected officials, voter registration, etc..

Strong command of Microsoft Office programs and ease in adapting to new technology, such as the Voter Activation Network, Salsa and social media applications

Superior people skills; ability to understand and connect to peoples’ motivations, ability to build strong relationships.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Strong interpersonal communication skills: direct, proactive communication style; ability to ask for support; ability to give and receive constructive feedback from colleagues and supervisors.

Ability to stay self-organized, multi-task and manage multiple projects at once.

Ability to travel (usually within a county) and work some evenings and weekends

Commitment to Democracy NC’s mission and values; ability and willingness to work with diverse groups including people with low-income, people of color, rural and urban people, college students, conservatives, moderates, liberals, LGBTIQ, elected officials, etc.

Salary/Benefits

$15/hr starting at 20hrs a week
