Haw River Assembly is seeking to fill a full time position as our Water Quality Program Manager.
The Haw River Water Quality Program Manager is responsible for collecting samples for targeted research and pollution concerns. This role also includes coordinating with other staff to manage volunteer stream survey programs. This person will work with the Haw Riverkeeper and Executive Director to create a sample design plan for the following parameters:
- Swim Guide and follow up investigations for E.coli exceedances
- Microplastics
- Harmful Algal Blooms
- Industrial Contaminants: per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and 1,4-dioxane
- Fecal bacteria
- Macroinvertebrates
- Sediment from Construction Stormwater
- Nutrients from Post-Construction Stormwater
This position will also include managing data and using our existing tools to display the data in a visual map for the general public, and submitting the data to state agencies annually. This annual data submission will also be used to create a State of the Haw annual report.
Responsibilities
This person will be working with the Haw Riverkeeper to create sample designs, collect and manage water quality data, produce, display, and present reports, and prepare data for state and federal water quality standards. This role will include leading, instructing, and coordinating volunteers collecting stream health information for our River Watch program. This person must be able to learn and adhere to laboratory safety rules and practices, and learn and apply the established principles and methods used in water sample collection, handling and transport. This position requires independent work, without close supervision. This person will be expected to perform basic field analyses, through the use of various portable, computerized analytical instruments.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in water sample collection
- Experience in macroinvertebrate identification
- Attention to detail
- Proficiency in ArcGIS
- Proficiency in Excel
- Drivers license and reliable transportation
- Lives within the Haw River watershed
Salary/Benefits
This position is a full time, salaried 40 hour per week position. The salary range is $45k – $60k depending on experience. Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate. Haw River Assembly offers a health stipend for full time employees of $250 per month and employees are eligible for matching pension payments after 2 years.
