Women of Color Farmers Network Coordinator (Part-Time)

Job Information

Description

Toxic Free NC is seeking a part-time Network Coordinator to facilitate the Women of Color Farmers Network, lead the day-to-day activities of the program, plan workshops and events, connect network members with resources and support, and help members engage in advocacy for food sovereignty and agricultural reform.

About the Women of Color Farmers Network
Since 2021, the Women of Color Farmers Network has supported 35 members forging a path toward a self-determined future in which women of color, who have long carried the traditional knowledge of growers and nurturers, can prosper as they deserve from working with the land. The network was started by Phoebe Gooding, farmer and owner of Hawks Nest Healing Gardens, who started this space after noticing a gap in support and resources specifically for women of color farmers. Network members gather for farm visits, brigades, and an annual seed exchange; connect monthly for solidarity, support, and skillshare; learn together by attending conferences and trainings; and advocate for a just and sustainable food system. By centering those who for too long stewarded the land without acknowledgement, we are working to undo the unjust harms of our current agricultural system and to expand regenerative farming practices that advance environmental, economic, and climate justice.

  • Identifies and recruits values-aligned members.
  • Solicits and prioritizes topics of interest and builds out a calendar of engagement.
  • Leads and helps plan workshops and events to leverage network expertise and learn from one another on a range of topics relevant to farming, marketing, business planning, accessing land and resources, grant writing, and more.
  • Supports and strengthens the capacity of network members by sharing funding announcements, resources, and opportunities for learning and business development.
  • Helps members build skills to advocate for just and sustainable food policies.
  • Liaises with local and national coalitions advancing food systems change.
  • Provides thought leadership on food sovereignty, just agricultural reform, and the needs of underserved farmers via engagement with network farmers, community partners, decisionmakers, and coalition allies.
  • Supports the sustainability of the network by contributing to fundraising efforts and ensuring grant requirements are met.
  • Participates in team meetings and collaborates with members of the Toxic Free NC staff on programs and advocacy campaigns.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Deep understanding of environmental justice, food justice, and agriculture, with a commitment to addressing disparities within the food system.

  • Training or facilitation experience, with knowledge of popular education and participatory facilitation and decision-making methods a plus.
  • Experience in project management, with an ability to develop timelines and deliverables, plan and implement workshops, and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with grassroots organizations or networks, particularly those focused on environmental or food justice.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • An organizer’s mindset with a dedication to community, equity, and justice.
  • Passion for supporting women of color in agriculture.
  • Lived experience as a North Carolina farmer, and knowledge of local and regional food systems and resources is a big plus!
