General Position Overview:

Carolina Advocates for Climate, Health, and Equity (CACHE) is seeking an independent and detail-oriented contributor to serve as Climate Smart Healthcare (CSHC) lead. This is a part-time, remote position that must be located in North Carolina. The CACHE CSHC lead will oversee program management of CSHC Efforts for CACHE and for the Medical Society Consortium for Climate and Health (MSCCH).

This work includes collaborating and coordinating with individuals, groups, and organizations at the state and national level to assist in the development of goals, strategies, and efforts to support health system decarbonization and resilience both in NC (with CACHE) and nationally (with the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health climate smart healthcare committee).

Time requirement: This position is 10 hours/week, with potential expansion of hours over the next year.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Support CACHE CSHC Efforts

  • Schedule, create agendas and take minutes for monthly CACHE CSHC committee meetings;
    Facilitate new member integration into CSHC efforts, including developing interest-specific subcommittees;
  • Schedule and assist co-chairs in developing relationships with health professionals, local elected officials, community organizations, and health system leadership to educate and support climate smart health care;
  • Collect, organize, and communicate sustainability work already underway across NC Health Systems in order to promote and advance this work;
  • Assist committee co-chairs and members of CSHC committee with identifying resources and contacts for program development;
  • Work closely with the CSHC co-leads and the CACHE Executive Director on CSHC strategic planning
  • Assist in development and accomplishment of strategic goals;

2. Support MSCCH CSHC Efforts

The MSCCH has recently created a CSHC committee and is supporting administrative time to facilitate this work. As a new position managing a new committee, there is some room to develop what this position will entail. Collaboration between program manager, CACHE Executive Director, MSCCH CSHC Co-leades, MSCCH staff, and Healthcare Without Harm staff will be necessary to assist in defining this position. Some of the anticipated responsibilities:

  • Schedule, create agendas and take minutes for monthly MSCCH CSHC committee meetings;
  • Schedule and assist co-chairs in developing relationships with health care workers, elected officials, medical boards, organizations, and health system leadership;
  • Work closely with the MSCCH CSHC co-leads, MSCCH medical director, and Healthcare Without Harm (HCWH) staff on national level CSHC strategic planning (efforts that will start with four target states: NC, MI, VA, and WI)
  • Collaborate with MSCCH CSHC committee leaders and members in scheduling meetings and coordinating efforts:
    – With elected officials to advance federal policy and legislative objectives
    – With multiple medical specialty boards to provide education and strengthen support of this work among health professionals

3. Program Development:

  • Collaborate with CACHE program manager as needed to integrate work across CACHE
  • Identify relevant grants and assist in grant writing to facilitate CSHC
  • Track accomplishments in CACHE Google Drive document

Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Health Policy Administration, Organizational Management, or similar discipline.
  • One to three years of experience in a similar role is a plus.
  • Intermediate or higher-level skills in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and multidisciplinary project skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Adaptable with a willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

  • Experience with stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to travel to selected communities in North Carolina.
