Saving Energy Cost-Effectively: A National Review of the Cost of Energy Saved Through Utility-Sector Energy Efficiency Programs by American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy
- "At these costs of saved energy, energy efficiency is by far the least costly energy resource option available for utility resource portfolios. Saving a kilowatt-hour through energy efficiency improvements is easily one-third or less the cost of any new source of electricity supply, whether conventional fossil fuel or renewable energy source. In addition, the results of this research suggest that the cost of energy efficiency has remained very consistent over time."
- Energy Trends: Highlights on consumer energy usage
- Renewable energy sources are at the heart of the emerging green economy, and if consumers have any say, solar would be their carbon neutral source of choice - 37% preference. Nationwide, 27% of households use 10 or more compact fluorescent lightbulbs and about 60 percent of households use 4 or more CFLs.

- Includes North Carolina. Using a decade of satellite data and information collected from federal meteorological buoys shows that annual offshore wind resources in the region amounted to 330 gigawatts or nearly five times the estimated energy use in nine coastal states.
- Regional Renewable Outlook: Virginia/Carolinas (November 2009) SNL Energy
- North Carolina is well ahead of neighbors South Carolina and Virginia in developing renewable-energy plants. North Carolina accounts for more than 570 megawatts of about 845 megawatts of renewable energy planned or under construction in the three states.
