Description
Winyah Rivers Alliance is proud to announce the creation of a new position dedicated to protecting the health of our local rivers and watersheds. Thanks to generous support from the Frances P. Bunnelle Foundation, the organization is now hiring a Water Quality Field Specialist to work directly alongside the Black-Sampit Riverkeeper and other members of the Riverkeeper team. This new role reflects Winyah Rivers Alliance’s commitment to science-based watershed protection.
Responsibilities
The Specialist will lead water quality monitoring efforts throughout the Black and Sampit River Watersheds, collecting baseline data on key indicators like dissolved oxygen, bacteria levels, and nutrient concentrations. The position will also support regional Riverkeeper programs in the Pee Dee-Lynches, Waccamaw, and Lumber River watersheds. A major goal of the new program is to build a public, year-round online data portal where residents and researchers can access water quality data, real-time water level readings from Divirod sensors, and summer swim safety information.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be based in or near Georgetown County and have experience in environmental monitoring, data management, or fieldwork. Winyah Rivers Alliance welcomes applications from individuals passionate about protecting South Carolina & North Carolina rivers and who are excited to be part of a small, dedicated team.
