Information

In honor of National Kayak and Canoe Day, each year in June many of the Riverkeepers of Waterkeepers Carolina host a community paddle in their watersheds. This year, Pamlico-Tar Riverkeeper Katey Zimmerman is teaming up with the Mayor of Aurora to highlight a little-known recreational asset of the town: Bailey Creek. Katey and Mayor Hendrix will lead participants from the Aurora Wildlife Boat ramp up Bailey Creek and back for a leisurely ~3-mile paddle.

We will keep an eye on the wind, but this should be an easy, beginner level paddle. No experience is needed! We will go over safety before launching.

What to Bring:

  • Bring your own kayak, canoe or paddle board if you have it. Otherwise, please indicate in the form that you will need to borrow a boat.
  • Bring plenty of water and sun protection, and bring snacks or lunch. We’ll plan to take a little floating lunch break before turning around in Bailey Creek to return to the boat ramp.
