Daniel Stowe Conservancy (Stowe) inspires a love of nature and its beauty through unforgettable outdoor experiences. The nearly 400 acres of Stowe provides visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature in all seasons. The property welcomes guests to spectacular gardens, a conservatory dedicated to the display of tropical plants and orchids, sparkling fountains, nearly 6 miles of trails and a dog park.
The Bookkeeper is responsible for general accounting activities and functions directed by the Chief Financial Advisor. An ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, superb attention to detail, ability to work independently, and represent the organization in the highest form.
Responsibilities
- Understands the importance of each guest to Stowe and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
- Collaborates with the Finance Director to accurately prepare and generate monthly financial reports.
- Record financial transactions in QuickBooks daily.
- Process account payables and receivables.
- Reconciles bank and credit card statements monthly.
- Complete staff expenditures in bill.com.
- Knowledge and understanding of general bookkeeping procedures and basic accounting (GAAP).
- Exemplifies the Stowe Mission Statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
- Performs any additional duties assigned by the Finance Director.
Qualifications
- Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
- Successfully pass a standard background review.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, math or economics, required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Proven experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
- Proficiency with financial software systems that include Intaact, QuickBooks and bill.com.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record keeping.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- High ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
- Ability to work in a team and also independently.
Salary/Benefits
$20 – $22 per hour
