Information
Join Partners for Environmental Justice (PEJ) and the City of Raleigh’s Parks Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) Crew for a hands-on volunteer day at the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Volunteers will help maintain one of Raleigh’s GSI devices by weeding planted beds and learning how nature‑based stormwater solutions support cleaner water, healthier ecosystems, and more resilient communities.
These events are a great opportunity to:
- Explore different parts of Raleigh and discover a variety of GSI devices
- Learn how rain gardens, bioretention systems, wetlands, and more function in the landscape
- Get hands‑on experience maintaining living stormwater infrastructure
- Support environmental justice and community‑centered stewardship
- Meet neighbors, connect with staff, and enjoy meaningful time outdoors
Green Stormwater Infrastructure uses soil, plants, and wetlands to manage and clean stormwater runoff from roads, sidewalks, and rooftops—reducing pollution and mimicking natural hydrology. By volunteering, you’re helping strengthen community-based, environmentally just care for our watershed.
