The Senior Manager, Programs provides operational leadership and cross-program coordination for CleanAIRE NC’s program portfolio. This role supports planning, implementation, and performance across the organization’s core program areas, including environmental justice, community science, health, education, and advocacy.

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with program managers and cross-functional teams, the Senior Manager, Programs helps strengthen program systems, support staff, track performance metrics, and ensure program activities align with organizational priorities and funding commitments. This role focuses on execution excellence, team coordination, and measurable program impact while contributing insights that inform organizational strategy and sustainability.

Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Programs ensures that CleanAIRE NC’s programs operate efficiently, align with organizational priorities, and deliver measurable outcomes across the state.

Key responsibilities include:

Program Operations & Systems

  • Strengthen and maintain program management systems, tools, and workflows (e.g., Asana) to support effective planning, collaboration, and reporting.
  • Coordinate annual and quarterly program planning cycles, including goal setting, work plans, and milestone tracking.
  • Ensure program activities align with organizational priorities and funding commitments.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance program coordination and operational effectiveness.

Team Leadership & Staff Support

  • Supervise and support Program Managers across CleanAIRE NC’s program areas.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development guidance.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and mission-driven team culture.
  • Support staff capacity building and ensure clarity in roles, deliverables, and timelines.

Budget & Grant Alignment

  • Support program budget tracking in partnership with leadership and development staff.
  • Align staffing, program activities, and timelines with grant requirements and funding commitments.
  • Contribute program narratives, milestones, and performance metrics for grant proposals and reports.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Impact Measurement

  • Support the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Track program outputs and outcomes to ensure consistent measurement of organizational impact.
  • Review program data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepare summaries of program performance for leadership, Board, and funder reporting.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Advocacy, Development, and Communications teams to ensure program alignment with policy priorities and fundraising strategies.
  • Provide program insights that support advocacy initiatives and public engagement.
  • Participate in organizational planning and strategy discussions.

External Engagement

  • Represent CleanAIRE NC at meetings, community events, and partner convenings.
  • Support relationships with community organizations, research institutions, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to collaborative initiatives that advance CleanAIRE NC’s mission.

Operational Risk & Program Coordination

  • Identify operational risks or program implementation challenges and recommend solutions.
  • Review program workload and capacity to ensure realistic timelines and effective resource allocation.
  • Support leadership in prioritizing initiatives aligned with organizational capacity and strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 6–8 years of program management experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience managing multiple programs, projects, or initiatives simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with environmental justice, public health, advocacy, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience supporting grant reporting and funder alignment.
  • Strong organizational, operational management, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, environmental justice, and community-centered solutions.

This role operates in a hybrid work environment that combines remote work with in-person collaboration, meetings, and community engagement activities.

The position requires someone who is organized, collaborative, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic nonprofit environment. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support events, meetings, or community initiatives.

Salary range for this position will be commensurate with experience and organizational salary structure.

This role may require occasional evening or weekend work and local travel for meetings, community engagement activities, or organizational events.
