Description

The Membership Manager is responsible for shaping the membership program of Stowe under the direction of the Development Director. This position supports the strategies and implementation of a comprehensive multi-channel membership program that focuses on the growth of new members, retention of current members, re-enrolling lapsed members, upgrading membership categories, and feeding the pipeline for various donor opportunities. This position works closely with departments across the organization to strengthen member engagement and move them along the continuum of giving.

Responsibilities

  • Understands the importance of each guest to the Garden and drives excellence to ensure an optimal experience in every way.
  • Assists with membership strategy and revenue goals in collaboration with the Director of Development.
  • Tracks and reports progress on revenue goals, and member/donor conversion rates, including preparation of financial and donor reports.
  • Recruits new members through the coordination of and participation in outreach events.
  • Manages the timeliness of gift processing and acknowledgments.
  • Develops and implements personalized upgrade campaigns for general membership, providing upgrade opportunities for the Evergreen Society.
  • Manages and maintains relationships with volunteers for direct mail and renewal campaigns.
  • Enhances the benefit opportunities available to general members, including community partnerships and local discounts.
  • Creates and manages ongoing membership experiences, events, and stewardship opportunities for the general membership base.
  • Manages corporate/community membership programs outside of Stowe’s traditional membership model.
  • Assists members with their technical needs (e.g., accessing the member portal, completing membership transactions, etc., including the creation and distribution of digital membership cards.
  • Collaborates with the Guest Services Manager to develop ongoing communication strategies and weekly processes to grow the visitor-to-member pipeline.
  • Audits new memberships sold at the front desk for accuracy.
  • Supports the Guest Services team by serving at the front desk during “member mornings” and other times as needed.
  • Assists the Advancement team with fundraisers and special events.
  • Coordinates the monthly member newsletter with the Marketing and Communications Manager.
  • Exemplifies the Garden Mission Statement and supports staff, departments, and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
  • Performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Qualifications

  • Exhibits a passion for the mission of Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
  • Successfully pass a standard background review.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and inviting
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team, yet also independently
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet Stowe’s needs.?

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Experience & Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising preferred.
